Here it is, Orcapalooza. The motherlode of orc video (at least on this site). I'll cut right to the chase and introduce the first video. Here I have just loaded in from character creation where I made a Black Orc named Chopshop and begin my adventure:
A few quests later I am level 3 and embark on one of the best quests of any starting area, "Lob it good":
After wrapping up the quests in that area, I stumbled upon an open area that just felt like something different was to happen there. I soon realized that it was a Public Quest area, and I got the whole thing captured:
After gaining a few levels and feeling feisty I decided to jump into some open RVR over in the Empire/Chaos Tier 1 area called Nordland. As you will see in this video, things didn't go so well, but multiple factors played into that (one of which is definitely my lack of skill):
So yeah that wasn't very fun, but probably not necessarily the fault of the Black Orc. So I did some more RVR and scenarios and quickly got up to renown rank 6. I was level 10, so I qualified for the first set of decent renown rank gear. Here is a quick look at the gear and as usual, I dye the armor:
Ok so now I'm ready for some action! I got a brand new set of gear and some confidence that my next foray into RVR/scenarios will be better this time. Yep, it was alot better. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't just the gear that did it. I didn't really get that much better at a Black Orc either. It was multiple things. Better heals, we were higher level than some of them and had better gear, etc. But still, this Nordenwatch battle was ownage, and you can see how hard to kill a sword and board Black Orc can be:
And to wrap up my initial Black Orc coverage, I re-made Chopshop as a level 31 via templates provided to us in the 3.3 patch which started the "endgame" phase of beta. Here we see Chopshop showing off his gear (yes I skipped the armor dye and keep visit on this one) and I talk about his skills very briefly. I also mount up and ride around The Inevitable City a bit. And as a final bonus, we meet Tchar'zanek!
I wish I had more RVR/Scenario footage to show you, especially with the lvl 31 version. However, things have changed and the server that has those templates available has been turned into a server for a different function and the NDA still applies to it. If I do anything more on the Black Orc it will be lower level stuff.
Pre-NDA drop beta verdict:
The Black Orc is probably 4th on my list of classes to play as my main. This is because I found the Ironbreaker just as capable of a tank as the Black Orc, but he gets a skill at level 14 called "Away with Ye" that is a huge knockback. People go flying off of cliffs when I use it, and its way fun in RVR to use. However, I'm a big guy on looks, and I think the Black Orc is one of the visually coolest characters in the game when wearing an armor set. So maybe that puts him tied for 3rd, equal with the Ironbreaker. I definitely thought this was the best tank to play for Destruction over Chaos. If you don't care about looks that much, and don't care what side you play on, the Ironbreaker is a great choice. This may not be my main come launch but it is definitely a possibility should I go destruction and not decide to play a Shaman. Overall this is a solid class that is very tough and can survive for a long time in many battles, plus he is definitely a capable PVE tank for quests and dungeons. I don't think the Black Orc could be called a bad choice no matter what.

blog comments powered by DisqusAny chance you could do a squig herder video?
I love pet classes and teh Squig seems closet to WoW's hunter. However, youre comments on the white lion's pet left me a bit concerned...
Pretty nice video.
I wish you told us more on how the class plays.
Hey, just wanted to drop by and give you some credit. Thank you for your effort with the videos, I think I've seen almost every one of them by now!
Keep up the good work. :)
I don't know if you mentioned this in the videos and I just missed it, but what talent tree did you go through? Oh yea, and you never mentioned if your going to play this class come launch.
Hi just dropping by to say thakns for all the vids and the info, your doing a great job.
Thanks, great videos man. Now, I just found out from another forum that you can dye your armor with a "secondary" color also by right-clicking on the color. I don't know if you already know that, but I think I only you saw dyeing the primary color.
I would also second the Squig Herder but IIRC you've already finished capturing the video footage. Well if I'm wrong then Squig Herder please!
I generally want to thank you for sharing this insight. I find these videos of yours the best I have seen ever about WAR, since it not just some vid with music, but you explain what you do and what is going on! It really made me understand WAR and its classes, and I hope you can cover more, still. :)
Great work, pal!
Thanks for the appreciation guys, it means alot to me and motivates me to keep doing as many video blog posts as I possibly can stand. I'm glad you guys are enjoying them! I had fun making them :)
Hey man great job! This is the best informative video I've seen anywhere!
I am sad though, they took out the orc choppa class...
but anywho! Very nice video, keep up the great work, you make the videos kinda funny, like when you were focused on your orc, and then the goblin just started dancing right next to ya haha
hey im xANIME4LIFEx on yt and i just wanna get ure opinons on a black orc, did u like playing on it? was it easy to control? is it a beast in rvr/pvp? and r there instances in War? if u could pm me on yt that would be great, ty
Thanks for putting this stuff up. Good videos and good commentary.
I love the videos btw. You are doing a really good job with these, they are helping me find out a bit more about each class before i start my main. Keep them up.
Now i have a couple of questions, I love the black orc and I know it will be at least my first alt if not my main, but how do they fair without a shield and just using a two hand axe?
Another question is, Do you think you will be playing a warrior priest at anytime? I would like to see how they play and how they heal and do damage as a close combat healer.
what was that pherix master of change, and what do they do. it's a curious npc. plus if his name implies, does he like corrupt the chaos players and mutate/make them look cooler or what?
answers much appreciated
No clue on that NPC man, you saw what I did, I left the area after I stopped recording.
@mwguitarist
The Black Orc (and all tanks) are still pretty tough w/o a shield depending on gear and tactics chosen. If you spec and gear up everything for pure dps I feel like you are only marginally more survivable than a Marauder.
The Black Orc is the dps tank class that mmo players have been dreaming about. They don't have the insane survivability that the ironbreakers have, but when these guys want something dead, they're most likely going to outlast you. Their taunt is the opposite of what you'd think, instead of making a target focus on you because you make them weaker against other targets, you make yourself stronger against that target. You get to have short AE buffs to your allies, you get a bunch of knockdowns, and you get quite a few instant swing abilities that make you a threat to any and everything you come into contact with. Not to mention the ability Trip 'Em Up is a DoT effect that keeps your target snared by 40%, making it nearly impossible for anyone to get away from you. This class is just fun. Exhibit A:

Exhibit B: http://www.wardb.com/spell.aspx?id=1685
If you're one of those people who loves to just run into a fight and immediately make an impact to help your team win, this is the class for you. Honestly though, I have not tried out the Chosen, it might be better, it might not. All I know is that the Black Orc is a great bit of fun.
P.S. sorry about leaving all these long posts on your blogs, Brent. When I start typing about these guys, I get a little caught up :(.
Let it flow Woody, let it flow! That's what the comments are here for :) Thanks for posting!
First of all thank you for all your hard work with the videos , im almost in love with you because of them. My question about the black orc is : Is it a good dps class? and will I do great dps with lets say a 2 handed axe or dualwielding 2 1handers? I feel like this is ONLY a tank class but I want to play a black orc as a dps class without feeling like a tank trying to make some % of health drop from some targets in PvP.
Hello there, how do you think black orcs damage with 2handed/1h & shield is compared to Ironbreakers? And how do you feel about the black orcs combo system?
I like the Black Orc combo system because of its simplicity, its not an overly complicated tank to play and that's fine by me. Their 2h damage is ok, but I haven't played one with a 2h much because I favor survivability over the extra dps.
Okey cool :) I watched your Ironbreaker movie earlier and u used Sword & board :) And you owned ppl with it, are Black Orcs as good with the Sword and Board fighting?
Thanks man!
Yeah Black Orc felt the same way with sword and board.
Love all your vids!
KEEP UP THE GR8 WORK
but just wondering, could you possibly do a shadow warrior as ive found no-one is actually too certain of them, Enlighten us great one!
(( OH and by the way for tanking black orc or chosen? ))
Hello guys. I am just want to ask you guys. How can i get a full renown armor set? I am lvl 10 Black orc and rank 6 renown. Where shoud i go to by my full gear? thx
@Anonymous above this
Its been changed. You can't get the full set at level 10 any more. It might be as high as level 14 now to get that stuff.
Ok thx for the answer. But i need one more answer :D:D Where shoud i go to buy my Renown sets? i mean it is possibly to by a renown Gear on lvl 12 and renow rank 12 ?
