Warhammer Performance Optimization (Windows Vista)

by Helik

EDIT: Switch control panel to "Classic View" via the option on the left hand side. This allows for a greater variety of options including "Power Options". Sorry to those of you who couldn't find it initially!

Have you been suffering from mediocre performance on a great computer in Warhammer Online? Have you surrendered to the idea that its simply horrific programming?

While I've been extremely busy over the last few days with after-hours appointments at work, I wanted to swing in and tell you what I found while waiting on a customer to arrive...

Warhammer Performance in Windows Vista:
Apparently there is an option within Vista's Power Management that manages power usage regardless of if you're permanently connected to a power source or running on battery (laptop or desktop). It GREATLY limits the amount of power fed to your CPU. For instance, my 2.85ghz processor was only recieving half the normal power at best, and I was completley unaware!

Want to know if this could be causing YOU to lose performance? Give it a whirl.

Control Panel ->
Power Options ->
Select "High Performance" ->
Select "Change Plan Settings" ->
Select "Change Advanced Power Settings" ->

With "High Performance (Active)" selected, move down to Processor Power Management. Change both Minimum Processor State and Maximum Processor State to 100%.

Now your computer will allow full power to your CPU when necessary. This change has given some (including myself) a noticeable boost in performance. Best of luck, and tell your friends!

I have Vista 64 and don't have the Processor Power Management option. Is this just a 32bit option?

This might help the problems I am having, but I cannot seem to find Processor Power Management, :S. I don't think I'm doing something wrong but thanks for this, I knew Vista did this on Laptops but not Desktops.

It worked for me... After you open Control Panel, try switching to the "classic view" (there should be an option to do that on the left). Then look for Power Options.

Thanks for the tip! I definitely noticed a difference!

Definitely check it out in 'classic' view. I apologize, didn't even think about that!

In the Control Panel Home view, it does not show this option. Swapping to classic makes a larger list of more specific options available in vista, most notably: Power Options!!
