Champions Online: Week in the News

by Scarybooster

It has been very busy week for Champions Online. Go to Champions Online and you will see several news items for this week alone. Also, go to CO Daily News for more news this week. I got to hand it to the Cryptic crew, they are revving up for September 1st release date.

On Friday I got a Tweet that said,
"Did Someone Say Open Beta?: Champions Online Daily News's Colin Campbell spent yesterday wandering the Cryptic o..http://tinyurl.com/ne4vn7"
I said, "Word!". Then I read, CO Daily News and said, "oh".

What was I thinking? Did I really think they would have a open beta so soon? Mid-August sounds like the normal 2 week open beta time frame. What surprised me though was the mention of more contests and hopefully details on a collectors edition. I'm not buying anything till I play the game though. I got burned too bad by the fire breathing, hype monster last time. If I don't get into beta, I guess I'm waiting for a 7-10 day free trial. No more paying $80 for a game that sucks.

There was also a video released this week and you can look at it AWoT. Champions online doesn't have a huge hype meter like Star Wars: TOR but, I think interest is growing the closer they get to launch. Even Final Fantasy XIV has more hype than CO.

I'm hoping for a great MMORPG from Cryptic in September. Why? Well, several reasons and let me break it down for you.

1. If CO is a great MMO in my opinion, then I will have something to play. If I have something to play, my money will be going to Cryptic. That money will feed employees and that food comes from farmers. You see where I'm going with this. Champions Online could be the hero of America's stale economy.

2. If CO is great, then Star Trek Online will have an advantage from the start. In truth, I am more excited about STO than CO. Nobody has ever survived the development of a Star Trek MMO. STO will be a first ever. Yeah, there is Star Wars: TOR but, that title is a sure fail now that EA runs the show (good job with Mythic EA.). If CO comes crashing out of the gates and gains numbers from having a great game, thousands will flock to STO from the reputation of Cryptic. Let's not screw this on up with a PR stunt like Twitter. K? I fear if CO does poorly, the plug will be pulled on STO.

3. North Korea... Na, I guess that really doesn't fit. I was thinking world peace but that is not fitting either. Oh I got it, the production of hot pink Spandex will increase. Women will be sporting them around the world and men will be too busy to fight wars because their chubbies will get in the way of "locking and loading".

4. I will cry! Yeah really, I will. This is the second time I have gotten excited about the launch of a game. I have stopped playing all games to daydream about CO. I don't know if I can ever have faith in MMOs again if CO falters. That means my future plans to play STO and make fun of Br3ntbr0 for wanting to play DC Universe Online, will be ruined.

5. I won't have the drive to write about MMOs anymore. I know you will all miss me dearly (/crickets) but, Br3ntbr0 is hardcore so you will still have his stuff to read. Seriously, I don't read his stuff but you might. I skip right to me and read it over and over. Na, I'm just kidding. I like poking Br3ntbr0. It is fun because he is such a great guy and mentor of mine for writing wonderful MMO stuff. He puts fancy pictures on my posts and those cute little linky things.

6. I had something else but got overpowered with emotion from the shear awe of what is Br3ntbr0, I forgot. Anyway, I want to play CO real bad but the jerks at Cryptic won't let me till I say something nice on Twitter to them and stop stalking Randy Mosiondz.

My point of this post was to link stuff. I think I did good job. If you are member of Champions Online forums, please start petition to let me into beta. Oh and Br3ntbr0 too, because he does that cool video camera stuff. Maybe someday he will let me touch the big red button and commentate a video.
