Global Agenda: The Surprise of E3

by br3ntbr0

When I first came across Hi-Rez Studio's new title called Global Agenda, I was immediately interested. Its a game that strives to be a fusion of different styles of game play, giving you all the action of a Team Fortress 2 match with all the depth and character progression of an MMORPG game. There's a PVE side with missions and instances, but the big draw for me is the PVP. It pulls off its large scale territory control type of war through bite sized, smaller and instanced PVP battles. I immediately put this on my "must follow" list, and I'm glad I did.

Hi-Rez Studios was at E3, and there are many reports of people being more than pleasantly surprised by Global Agenda. Beside the fact that it is likely a very good game, I'm cheering for a small game developer to make big waves in the sea of large and established studios. Its easy to get overlooked at a big show like E3, so I'm happy that they Hi-Rez guys seem to have a good thing going. Look at a few of the recent reviews from people that have actually played the game at E3:
In a nutshell, Global Agenda plays beautifully. It was actually hard to walk away from this game. Please understand, I was at freakin' E3. Beautiful, alluring games surrounded me, tempting me with their siren songs. But the game play in Global Agenda was so riveting, it was like an electromagnet, and it wouldn't let me go to them. I simply had to play for a few minutes more. Truth is, I wanted to play for hours, and I haven't felt this way about a game in a long, long time. -- INC Gamers

Got a chance to play some Global Agenda at E3 last week, and let me tell you, the game is a hoot. I could have played that baby all day. The funny thing is that Global Agenda wasn’t even on my radar, and I write about MMOs a lot. In fact, due to the game’s title, I thought the game was an RTS. Not so, it’s a shooter, with some very nice MMO qualities thrown in. -- The Wandering Goblin

Global Agenda is shaping up well -- Hi Rez is doing a great job of mixing in some uncommon influences and combining them with the persistent MMO genre. We'll definitely be on the lookout for the beta later this year. -- Massively

It looks slick; it looks polished; it looks bad-ass. The graphics are top notch, the animations seamless. My character ran, crouched, jumped, caught ledges, heaved herself up, knifed an NPC in close combat and did a moon walk when she danced. -- Gamer's Info

Bottom line: we played several in-development persistent world shooters at E3 2009, and GA seemed to offer the best mix of originality and pacing for players that reside more on the MMORPG side of the gaming spectrum. --
Ten Ton Hammer

I'd say those are pretty glowing reviews of a game that has not yet started its beta. I look forward to this game, and it probably just got kicked up a few notches on my anticipated games list. Hopefully I can get a closer look at this in beta (winks at Hi-Rez) and be able to give you guys the full scoop when their NDA is lifted.

I'm quite excited about Global Agenda. Sounds kinda like what Tabula Rasa should've been. Hopefully it will have enough depth as often FPS MMOs are pretty shallow.

This game looks pretty tidy for a small developer and only in Alpha, hats off!

This game has been getting awesome reviews by so many people. MMO community has been calling for a sci-fi game, Global Agenda is it.

They had an awesome booth at E3, the dev team actually cares about the community and are in general, interested in what the community has to say and their opinions.

The game is in Alpha still and looks more polished and fun than most games do released, that itself says a lot about the time and effort they're putting into Global Agenda.

Not to mention, NO ELVES!!

I am quite certain that this game has the capacity to be one of the great ones. You all know what I'm talking about, one of those games you will talk about in 7-10 years as the game that defined fun for you.

The only thing that worries me is instanced pvp... kinda takes the point out a surprise attack if you have to wait for your enemy to queue in.

This is a game with a lot of potential with what appears to be a strong foundation of an excellent combat system. As additional content is added to the game it is getting better reviews and took many by surprise with their excellent showing at E3. Can't wait to try this game out for myself.
